REAL STEEL, PG-13 ( 2 hr & 7 min )
Quickie Review: In the near-future, the sport of boxing has gone high-tech with robots used in place of human boxers. A former boxer does whatever he can to make ends meet--and be a step ahead of loan sharks--by piecing together second-hand robots and taking them to underground fight venues in the hope of making a quick buck. When he gets down on his luck, he reluctantly takes-in his estranged son and, together, they build a robot good enough to be a championship contender.
I liked this movie. So did the audience. And the climactic fight in this movie is more emotional ( in a tender sort of way ) than in that of the WARRIOR movie. A kid in the row in front of mine was really swept-up in all the fight action of the climactic scene! But, this movie didn't get a "Hands Clapper" ending.
Here are the things that I didn't like about this movie: That bull should have been killed when it was punched in the face by the robot, Ambush. Ambush, a fight robot, would have to have been made of cheap sheet metal if the bull could gore it like that. Although this movie is set in the year 2020 ( ? ), those vehicles still look "present day" to me. That Atom is a 1,000-pound robot stuck in the side of a cliff in all that rain and mud. So, how was an--unassisted--11-year old boy able to drag it out of there? I would have loved to have seen the bad guy get what-he's-got-coming! Yeah, even though this movie is set in the near-future, the prize monies sure aren't adjusted for inflation! Hah!

This movie hints at something more about the G2 robot, Atom. I think it has Artificial Intelligence. We will know for sure when they come out with Part II, which they are already making right now.
