SHAZAM! PG-13 ( 2 hr & 12 min )

-

I went to see this movie at the Century 14 Vallejo in Vallejo, CA, on "Discount Day" Tuesday, April 9th, 2019, for the 9:50 p.m. show in auditorium 8, C9. The price of admission was $6.00. And I bought a$4.35 bottle of 20 oz. Dasani Water at the concessions counter.

Quickie Review:  A 14-year old foster home runaway, Billy Batson ( Asher Angel ), is chosen by a desperate and mysterious dying wizard ( Djimon Hounsou ) to be his champion against the forces of Evil. With just one word, Billy can turn himself into the ( immature ) superhero, Shazam ( Zachary Levi ), whenever evil is around.

What I Think About This Movie: This is probably the best superhero origin movie from DC Comics, so far. It is funny at times and quite entertaining to watch. I might go see it again in 3-D, next time.

But there are a few things wrong in this movie: How was the bad guy, Dr. Sivana ( Mark Strong ), able to commit the symbols to memory when the movie didn't hint at him being gifted with a photographic memory? Those two school bullies would have been arrested for reckless driving and even sued; at the very least, their truck would have been ticketed/towed for illegal parking. When Shazam and Freddy ( Jack Dylan Grazer ) sneaked back into the house, they really were in the peripheral field of vision of their foster parents. Why was the construction truck driver unable to see the pedestrian who was crossing the street? The bus's windshield sure was strong enough to support the weight of the bus plus its passengers. And why didn't the windshield break when Shazam was pushing against it? Why were the new superheroes able to learn to fly almost immediately? I would have just let the bad guy fall.

There is a Bonus Scene in the middle of the Ending Credits and another one after the end of the credits.

I didn't know that this is how Shazam got his start at being a superhero. I only read two or three Shazam comic books back when I was a kid ....
